OMG, I am such a bitch!!! But I wasn’t always that way – #screenplay

BERNADETTE VO – I sat there on the floor of my closet, rocking back and forth, as I flipped through the pages of my life journals, gasping, OMG, I was such a bitch! How did I not see it? How did I not feel it? How did someone not punch the crap out of me? Those were my first thoughts as reality began to set in.

The sun barely up, Bernadette at desk, typing frantically on lap top, wearing the same clothes we saw her in, in her closet. Though up all night, she is energized, wide eyed, excited. Her desk, like everything else, orderly, no sign of her budging.

A phone rings.

ON COMPUTER SCREEN – Peg’s picture and name appears on a Skype screen. Bernadette smiles, clicks on the video call button. Peg appears on screen, bedhead, leftover makeup smeared, making funny faces into the camera.

PEG – Hey sweetie, I was just wondering how you were doing?

BERNADETTE (talks fast) – I am great. No fabulous. It is a beautiful evening, and I am pumped up.

PEG – Ah, sweetie, it is the middle of afternoon?

BERNADETTE – What, what. What time is it.

PEG – 3:00 o’clock.

BERNADETTE – Oh my God, wow!

PEG – Ok, you’re scaring me girl. What have you been doing all evening and morning?

BERNADETTE – Writing a book!

PEG – Say that again!

BERNADETTE – I got home yesterday, and headed right for a bottle of wine. But, instead, I went and found my box of journals in my closet, and was up all night reading them.

PEG – Okay!

BERNADETTE – Did you know I was such a bitch?

PEG (laughter) – Oh, you are precious.

BERNADETTE – Anyway. I couldn’t believe what I was reading, but I didn’t know what I could do about it. I knew I couldn’t go back and apologize to all of those people individually …

PEG – Including you.

BERNADETTE – Whatever! But I could write an apology, in a book. I’ll self-publish it, make 100 copies and mail it out to folks. You know, like, Donald, Patrick…

Is it a good idea for Bernadette to put all of her junk on paper, have it printed, and then distributing out for all of the world – or at least her world to see? What do you think?
